Internships in Mental Health
There are two types of internships in the Mental Health Department.

Pre-Doctoral Internships: Students interested in completing their internship at Home Start will receive training in Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) and Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT). These are 1-year part-time internships, which start in late August. Interested candidates must have a Masters degree in the mental health field should apply through the CAPIC website.

MFT Internships: Students interested in completing their internship at Home Start may receive training in Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) and Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT). Both MFT Trainees and Interns are eligible to apply by contacting the Program Manager, Chris Fragiskatos, at cfragiskatos@home-start.org.

Facts regarding our internships:

You may provide services in client homes, schools, or other appropriate community locations deemed appropriate for service provision based on the needs of each child and family.

You may facilitate therapy groups at schools.

You may drive to each region of the county while providing services.

You will have reliable transportation and will maintain a valid driver’s license and automobile insurance.

You may use your own vehicle to travel to appointments and internship related meetings and training, and that Home Start will reimburse mileage for internship related travel.

You will spend about 45- 50% of your internship providing direct services to clients.
