We believe that every family deserves a safe place to live, ample food, steady income, physical wellness, and healthy relationships.

It is our goal to provide a safe place for you and your family to receive support and assistance in your journey towards self- sufficiency. We offer Emergency Food Assistance, Nutrition Education Classes, Cal Fresh & Medi Cal Benefit Application Assistance, Job Development Services, Financial Literacy Education, Free Tax Consultation and Preparation and referrals to other community based organization.

You have a voice and a choice in the services you receive. We recognize that you are the expert on your life and we want to work with you to develop a plan for yourself and your family. We want these offices to be a safe and encouraging place for you and your family.

We provide all services in both the Central and East Regions. Individuals or families who are eligible must be living in Central San Diego or East San Diego County and either be low income, receiving public assistance or receiving SSI.

The FSS Program provides the following services:

EMPLOYMENT SERVICES: A case manager will meet with you and together you create goals and steps to complete your goals. This case manager provides ongoing case management, guidance and resources towards your employment and career goals. Specific services include:

  • Job Preparation Support: Assistance in resume writing and interviewing skills
  • Job Search Strategies: Networking, access to career and job fairs
  • Connection and access to ESL classes
  • Connection and access to job training and vocational opportunities
  • Job Placement Support
  • Job Retention and Advancement Support

TAX PREPARATION AND ASSISTANCE: Taxes can be a whole lot of trouble for some, but we can help! We offer year-round support with tax preparation and education. Our services include back tax preparation, for up to 10 years, and conducting presentations to community members about their Tax Rights and responsibilities. We are also actively participating in outreach and community events to offer free tax consultations and assistance. During tax season we offer tax preparation at 6 VITA sites throughout the central and east region.

  • Tax preparation for up to 10 years back taxes
  • Consultation and Education on Tax Rights and Responsibilities

NUTRITION EDUCATION: Eat your fruits and veggies! Our Nutrition Educators offer workshops that will help you and your family make healthier choices, increase your vegetable and fruit consumption, physical activity and food security and decrease your health risks. Each workshop includes a hands on recipe activity with snacks to sample!

Cal Fresh/Medi-Cal Application Assistance: We can help you determine if you are eligible and assist you in completing your online CalFresh or MediCal application, in a safe and comfortable environment scheduled at your convenience without any waiting in line.

EMERGENCY FOOD ASSISTANCE: Our emergency food assistance program helps individuals and families with supplemental food in times of need. You are welcome to receive emergency food assistance one time per month. There is no requirement for identification or other documentation.
