Home Start's volunteer Board of Directors meets monthly, in addition to serving on special committees, to ensure the success of the agency. They are responsible for providing financial oversight, supporting strategic planning, governance, developing policies and assisting with fundraising.

Mr. Davis has a B.A. in English and Communication Studies (1986)  with a Masters in Executive Leadership from the University of San Diego (2008) His community and professional associations include the American Society for Training and Development, Volunteer San Diego and he is a 2003 LEAD Graduate. Paul has been active in community relations with Special Delivery San Diego, Children’s Hospital, YMCA Youth and Family Services, among others.

Ms. Hurd has over 20 years of banking experience with Union Bank.  She has volunteered with several San Diego organizations including: HOPE CDC, San Diego High and All Congregations Together just to name a few.  Lynette lives in San Diego with her three children and believes in setting an example for them to always give back to the communities where we live, work, and play.  As a member of the Board of Directors for Home Start, she is proud to be a part of an organization that not only walks the walk and talks the talk about issues that affect our children, but actually rolls up its sleeves to get things done.

As senior manager for Blum and Clark, Ms. Crippen is responsible for client relations, review of tax and accounting projects, peer review, and mentoring of staff.  She has served as CFO and Director of Finance for large privately held companies.  She began her enthusiasm for volunteer work from a very young age, continuing into adult hood working with the recreational therapy departments at Children's Hospital's in San Diego and Stanford.  She is a member of the AICPA and the California State Society of CPA's.

Mr. Drake, an Oklahoma native, is a United States Navy Veteran.  He holds a B.S. in Information Systems and received his Masters in Project Management from Boston University.  Mr. Drake has worked in several systems engineering and program management positions in the defense industry.  He is currently employed as a program manager with Qualcomm.  Brett is proud to be helping Home Start in its mission of strengthening families through its various programs and in helping to make San Diego a better place to live.

A graduate of Syracuse University, Anthony has a BFA with an emphasis in musical theatre. Anthony has won awards for his work, such as Creative Director of the Year Award from Event Solutions Magazine, the PETCO Chairman's Award and the 2003 Educator of the Year award, for the teaching of his written curriculum at the University of San Diego's Event Management Certification Program. Anthony has been a staple of the San Diego non-profit community from producing events to his volunteering as Big Brother with BBBS, and is a 2003 LEAD San Diego graduate.


Sonya Berg

Ms. Berg earned a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering at Texas Tech University.  After graduating, Sonya worked as a Safety Engineer for several years.  Following her career in Engineering Sonya became one of the top 50 independent Insurance Marketing Representatives in the Nation and managed a team of 15 sales reps .  Most recently, Sonya has been named the Co-Chair of "The Military Wives Family Foundation" Gala 2012. Ms. Berg has assisted with Photocharitys' Homeless Shelter fund raising, San Diego Food Bank and fundraising for a Major Sundance Film Festival Film titled "Rooted in Peace".  Ms. Berg is passionate about helping abused and neglected children and families in need.  

 

Robert "Robin" Traylor

Mr. Traylor earned his law degree from the University of California at Los Angeles, where he was named to the Order of Coif. Prior to joining his current firm, he served as a law clerk for the U.S. Fifth Court of Appeals and spent nearly six years on Capitol Hill as a legislative director for two esteemed representatives. He is now a Partner at Seltzer, Caplan, McMahon, Vitek. His professional affiliations include the State Bar of California, the American Bar Association and the San Diego County Bar Association.

Ms. Heidelberg's practice emphasizes environmental and land use litigation as well as land use entitlements, compliance counseling and enforcement proceedings. She has extensive experience in litigating a broad range of matters under federal and California environmental laws. Ms. Heidelberg earned her J.D. from McGeorge School of Law, where she was valedictorian and Order of the Coif. She is also on the Board of the City Ballet of San Diego and has served on the Board of Sojourn Services for Battered Women & Their Children in Santa Monica, California.

Ms. De Berg graduated from San Diego State University with a BS in Accounting. She has worked in a plethora of positions including her previous position as CFO, Vice President of Finance, and Treasurer of the Burnham Institute for Medical Research, and currently, as CFO of Altair Therapeutics. She served as the Treasurer for Girls Inc. and her honors and affiliations are with the Athena CFO Steering Committee, BIOCOM, ABFO, E.W. Sells Award (Top 109 in CPA Exam), Outstanding Graduate 1990, Beta Alpha Psi - Vice President, ORSA - President, MAA and Golden Key National Honor Society, ASWA Scholarship Recipient.

Evelyn Wiggins

For more than 20 years Ms. Wiggins has advised individuals, businesses and nonprofit agencies on all aspects of federal and state labor and employment laws. A native of Wyoming, Ms. Wiggins graduated with honors from the University of Iowa after spending a year studying in Germany. In 1983, she moved to California to attend the University of San Diego School of Law. Ms. Wiggins is passionate about pro bono and community service. The San Diego County Bar Association recently recognized Ms. Wiggins as a “Bar Star” for her commitment to community service as part of the Association’s Lawyers Giving Back campaign.

Betsy began in the hospitality industry in 1987, working for one of the largest catering companies in San Diego.   In 1999, Evcon – Event/Convention Planners was created.  I have taken my past 15+ years of experience to work with clients to coordinate any and all aspects of a convention, event, corporate or incentive program.  I work with hotels throughout the world in site selection, and coordinate food, beverage, meeting space as well as  speakers, audio visual and all aspects of event planning.  Evcon assists in the development of budgets, meeting agendas, objectives and final outcome of any given program.

Richard Mackey

Rich has worked in the advertising industry for more than 18 years, both at advertising agencies and managing marketing internally for public companies. His strengths include unifying brand strategies with internal and external messaging and building strong, efficient social media programs. Born and raised in Iowa, he graduated with honors from Morningside College in Sioux City before departing the state for positions in Omaha, Chicago and Denver. A recent transplant to San Diego, he is passionate about photography, home improvement and giving back to his community.  He previously led corporate philanthropy programs for former employers with such non profits as Rebuilding Together and Declare Yourself. He firmly believes that Home Start's work to keep families and children safe, happy and healthy makes San Diego a stronger community.

Cheli Mohamed

Ms. Mohamed received a degree in Latin American Literature from the University of California San Diego. Cheli has 20 years experience in volunteer management and program development. She is currently at the California Police Athletic Federation, an organization that promotes physical  fitness and sport within the firefighter and peace officer communities. She is a 2011 LEAD San Diego graduate. Cheli is excited to work with Home Start and is dedicated to make our communities free of prejudice and bias.

Tammy Kwasigroch

Ms. Kwasigroch earned her BA in Sociology from San Diego State and has over 20 years experience in banking. As a native San Diegan, she currently resides in Mission Valley and volunteers for many organizations including, Junior Achievement, Rachel’s House, the San Diego Housing Commission, Surf Rider Foundation and San Diego Coastal Keeper. In addition to serving on Home Start’s board she also serves on the board of Athletes for Education.
